I have used this item for the past 28 years. It certainly has come in very handy. It looks like it could do some harm or rather you could do some harm with it. It actually helps out in the kitchen. Modern day ones look nothing like it. Any guesses?????

While at work today, I came up with the right answer. I'll never tell....

Is it for carving meat? I will soon be able to use open id, when Ben comes home to install an open id plug in. I am adding you to my blog roll!

Well, you squeeze the handle and...something happens. I showed it to my wife. She's about as (not) sure as I am. So we'll go with...bottle cap remover.

You've used it for 28 years?? Is it for opening jars that are hard to open?

Jessica and Margaret got it right. It is a jar opener. It is called a Gilhouley. It adjusts to fit all sizes, from a bottle cap to a very large jar. You slide the handle down till the teeth clamp against the lid and slightly twist. The lid pops right off.

I need one of those. Must be a good one if it's worked for 28 years.
